It provides services through its mobile application, including sending and receiving money, payments, savings products, credit, debit-card functionality, remittances, and tools for businesses.

Nequi originated in 2015 as an intrapreneurial initiative within Grupo Bancolombia and launched its app in April 2016. The company has announced that it is scheduled to begin operating as Nequi S.A. Compañía de Financiamiento, a Grupo Cibest company supervised by Colombia's Financial Superintendence, on September 1, 2026.
