The Business Model of Lynk & Co
Lynk & Co is a car brand founded in Sweden in 2016 by the Chinese car manufacturer Geely and positioned between the Chinese brands Geely and the Swedish subsidiary Volvo. The first car was sold in China in November 2017. Geely started offering cars in the compact and SUV class based on the Volvo CMA platform in 2018, targeting a younger audience with improved connectivity. In 2021, the first car was launched in the EU. Lync & Co sells its cars through a direct sales model through which customers can either buy their car over the internet or in the manufacturer's clubs, showrooms, or subscribe to a fully equipped model on a monthly cancellable basis. The company offers its customers in Europe the options of buying, subscribing or renting. Subscribing is a fixed monthly amount and borrowing is only paid when driven. 99 per cent of the revenue takes place through the website, with the clubs serving as more of a showcase. The company offers the buyers of the vehicles the possibility to simply rent out their vehicle, similar to Airbnb. Lynk & Co wants to revolutionise the automotive industry and offer mobility according to the needs of the drivers. Currently, only the Model 01 Plug-in Hybrid is available for purchase in Europe, in black or blue. Currently, the cars are distributed in 7 European countries and in China and has 10 clubs.
