The Business Model of BYJU'S
BYJU'S was founded in 2011 by husband and wife team Byju Raveendran (CEO) and Divya Gokulnath as Think and Learn Pvt. Ltd. It is an online learning platform for all children and youth in the K-12 segment, i.e. in the primary and secondary levels of the school system. The Learning App focuses on students from fourth to twelfth grade. However, there is also an early learning programme, The Disney - BYJU'S Early Learn App, which allows students to take courses from first to third grade. They focus on key subjects such as maths and science, English, music and fine arts. Besides, BYJU'S also includes training for exams like NEET or IIT-JEE in India or even GMAT at international level. Basically, the company manages to offer a user-friendly platform through an app where classes are held four times a week. The concept naturally appeals to the Corona pandemic, as teachers in schools are not trained to teach online, allowing children to escape a learning deficit. However, the programme is currently only available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Asian countries. The European market, however, shows great interest and potential. BYJU'S already has 150 million learners, 5.2 million paid subscriptions and more than 12,000 teachers. The company has locations in 21 countries and has successfully acquired several other companies in the industry (e.g. White Hat Jr.).
